What you need to know - Tarot Deck Comparison

Tarot
I was offered a loan of the Animal Tarot Cards created by Radleigh Valentine recently.

Oddly I had always been put off by the image on the cover of the box – yes we are all different and in fact this very image is what drew my friend to them.

I had great fun ‘getting to know’ the cards and have indeed bought myself the deck and they are, as we speak, winging their way to me.

My friend was unsure how this particular deck related to traditional Tarot so I wrote her some info –as below:

Major Arcana are the Purple cards and are numbered 0 ~ 21
These cards represent our journey through life as we travel along from being young and naive to learning about our gifts, creating relationships, looking at life differently and getting through all the ups and downs till we reach the end of a cycle.  We can be at different stages in the cycle at any time in different aspects of our life.

The four Minor Arcana Suits

Spring = Brown/Red cards, Fire = Wands
Passion, creation, manifestation

Eg, With Wands, we look at our lifestyle; our hopes and ambitions in the world.  They are the magic wand that supports us in our journey in life, they show us our beliefs and intentions, that guide us in our behaviour.

Summer = Aqua cards, Water = Cups
Feelings, Emotion, love, relationships

Eg, The Suit of Cups are the dreamy, emotional aspects of our life, and all to do with relationships.  These relationships can be related to ourselves, others and even work and home.

Autumn = Green cards, Earth = Pentacles/Coins/Discs
Earthly life, work, money, health, actions

Eg, The Pentacles suit is all about the material things in life, be it money, resources or your time.  These cards show us all the different stages of financial issues.

Winter = Blue cards, Air = Swords
Thoughts/thinking, communication, Knowledge

Eg, The Swords are the Suit of the Mind, all our thoughts and plans.  As a result, they show us our worries, our concerns, and matters of knowledge and education.
Tarot
card from the Animal Tarot and my favourite traditional set by Robin Wood.  The wording on the Animal Tarot card is…

“It’s time to release the past and move on to something new.  This ending is the first step on the way to a happier future.”

My traditional Death card shows symbols of a white rose and a butterfly – both also shown on the Animal Tarot card.  The Grim Reaper is standing on a path pointing out a new direction to travel as the old way no longer is the best option.

So you see how they relate directly to each other?  Let me know if you have questions about this or any other deck you have.
